Winnipeg Walk for Peace 2010

WFP Poster 2010 thumbnailPlan to attend the Winnipeg Walk for Peace 2010 on Saturday, June 19, 2010. We will assemble at the Manitoba Legislative Building at 12 Noon.

The theme for this year’s walk is “For Peace, Freedom and Democracy.” We chose this theme because we believe it offers a wide range of organizations and activists in Winnipeg an opportunity to express their specific concerns and to show their solidarity with each other.

Our annual Walk for Peace coincides with three other events that day at or near the Legislature that deserve our support:

– a Rally For Refugees that will begin at the University of Winnipeg at 10:00 a.m., and proceed to the Legislature for a program that ends at 1:00
– an Eyes on Sudan Peace Conference that will occur Saturday afternoon, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
World Refugee Day events at Central Park that will take place from noon to 10:00 p.m.

Please help promote the Peace Walk, either by downloading and circulating this flyer and/or this poster.

The annual Winnipeg Walk for Peace is sponsored by Peace Alliance Winnipeg. Co-sponsors this year are Winnipeg Haiti Solidarity Group, Eyes on Sudan, Cop Watch and the Winnipeg Chapter of the Council of Canadians.

Kristen Templin announces with sorrow the passing of long-time WCCD (Peace Alliance) out-reach/ fund-raising /public education activist, Yvonne Templin, on June 9th.
Yvonne helped the local peace movement, and our annual Walk for Peace, with tireless dedication, boundless creativity, and indomitable spirit throughout the ‘eighties, ‘nineties, and even into the 21st century for as long as her health permitted. Please remember Yvonne, her tremendous contribution, and the efforts of ALL our peacenik forerunners /elders when you join us in Walking for Peace this year, and in years to come.
Yvonne (Craddock) Templin, 1924 – 2010 — May she rest in PEACE!
