Les Artistes pour la Paix in Quebec has written to Prime Ministers Carney and Legault calling for Canada to end its military and political collaboration with Israel and is encouraging all Canadians to sign the letter.
The petition reads:
Letter to our two Prime Ministers Carney and Legault – May 7, 2025
Dear Prime Ministers,
Canadians and Quebecers of all political stripes have just elected a government that seemed best suited to defend the country against the threat of annexation.
They acted in this way to ensure their economic interests, but above all to assert their political and socio-cultural difference. This difference is manifested first and foremost by adherence to the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UN1948) which assures each person the right to life, liberty and security, not only on our territory, but in all countries.
We who until now have been fortunate to enjoy these rights, have been helplessly witnessing for more than a year and a half the massacre of civilians in Gaza in which we are implicitly complicit as citizens of a country which has never yet formally denounced what many describe as genocide, which continues to sell weapons to Israel and to maintain diplomatic relations with this state which violates all international laws.
We ask you to immediately put an end to this military and political collaboration with Israel which duplicates that of the Americans from whom we are, it seems, so different, by ceasing the direct or indirect sending of weapons to Israel and by closing the Quebec Office in Tel Aviv.
Need we remind you that any government, minority or majority, even democratically elected, loses all legitimacy if it does not concretely translate, here and in Gaza, the values guaranteed by the rights for which we are all responsible, which ultimately ensure our freedom and security.
