Canada’s Cold War

In its fifth installment of the webinar series Canada in the World, Peace Alliance Winnipeg invited Richard Sanders to discuss Ottawa’s long standing practice of supporting groups that celebrate the extreme right wingers in their histories.

Richard founded the Coalition to Oppose the Arms Trade (COAT) and its magazine, Press for Conversion! in 1989. Over the decades, COAT has organized many public campaigns including peace rallies, marches, vigils and conferences. The magazine, while initially focusing on the conversion of military industries, has broadened since 1999 to include other themes that challenge the official national mythology that Canada is a global force for peace, human rights and democracy.
