World Beyond War, Rachel Small and the Suppression of Dissent in Canada

October 17 @ 1:30 pm - 3:30 pm CDT

The topic for this month’s discussion is the Suppression of Dissent in Canada

Date: Saturday, October 17, 2026
Time: 1:30 PM
Place: Worker’s Organizing Resource Centre, 432-B Ellice Avenue
Admission: Free. All are welcome.

Peace activist Rachel Small of World BEYOND War will speak via video link about the growing pressure faced by anti-war activists in Canada and other Western countries. Drawing on her own experience of having her home raided by police, Rachel will discuss the increasing use of surveillance, intimidation, and state power against people who challenge militarism and war. The presentation will examine what these developments mean for freedom of expression, protest, and democratic rights—and why defending anti-war voices is more important than ever

Rachel Small is the Canada Organizer for World BEYOND War. A community organizer, she has organized within local and international social/environmental justice movements for over a decade, with a special focus on working in solidarity with communities harmed by Canadian extractive industry projects in Latin America. She has also worked on campaigns and mobilizations around climate justice, decolonization, anti-racism, disability justice, and food sovereignty. MORE.
