Join author Owen Schalk at the launch of his new book, Canada & NATO: Myth of a Global Peacekeeper. His book disrupts the popular perception of NATO in the West—that it is a defensive, collective security organization—and explains that this is a myth. The book aims to prove five central points: 1) NATO has always been an offensive alliance, 2) the wars it wages are not just, 3) its existence and expansion stirs global tensions and raises the risk of global war, 4) it undermines Canadian sovereignty, and 5) it diverts resources that can serve the social needs of Canadians into a largely US-owned arms industry. Schalk thus makes a compelling argument that Canadians should oppose NATO and support their government’s withdrawal from the alliance.
