SUMMARY:Winnipeg Lanterns for Peace 2020
DESCRIPTION:  \nPlease join us for the annual Lanterns for Peace Ceremony\, held each year to commemorate the atomic bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki on Aug. 6 and 9\, 1945. Our aim is to help keep the memory of these attacks alive so that current generations understand we must never allow nuclear weapons to be used again. \nLocation: south side (the back) of the Legislative Building. \nSchedule\n7:30 to 8:45 – participants paint and assemble lanterns and origami cranes (we will provide the art supplies)\n8:45 to 9:15 – short speeches\n9:15: lanterns are lit and launched in the fountain as the sun begins to set \nThis is a beautiful ceremony. If you have never been to one\, here are some videos that will give you a good idea of what to expect. \nThis is a family-friendly event. All are welcome. \nCOVID-19 Safety Precautions\n1. In line with provincial public health requirements\, attendance is limited to 100 people.\n2. We encourage people to wear their own masks; we will provide masks to those who attend without them.\n3. Hand sanitizer will be provided at the art tables.\n4. We encourage you to practice social distancing with people outside of your immediate household. This means maintaining a 2 metre distance.
