About 400 Winnipeggers marched from the Manitoba Legislature to the Toronto Dominion building (Portage and Notre Dame) Saturday to add their voices to the international outcry against corporate greed.
Peace Alliance Winnipeg was a part of this, as were many peace organizations in other Canadian centres. We distributed several hundred copies of a statement by the Canadian Peace Alliance entitled “Peace and Prosperity NOT War and Austerity.” For us, the growing and deeply troubling militarization of Canadian society is an integral part of the growing inequality in Canadian society.
For those who missed the Oct. 15 activities in Winnipeg, here are a couple of short videos that provide a sampling of the sights and sounds.
Since the weekend a number of marchers have been camped out at Memorial Park. They welcome visitors and questions. They’ve been holding two consensus-building meetings, known as general assemblies, every day at 10 a.m. and 7 p.m. Anyone can attend.
