On Thursday, March 13th it has been announced that the Government’s motion to extend Canada’s military presence in Afghanistan will be voted on by Parliament. It is expected that the Conservative and Liberal alliance on this question will succeed and Canadian troops will continue to be in Afghanistan until 2011.

To coincide with this the Peace Alliance Winnipeg is calling on all organizations and individuals who oppose this war to meet at River and Osborne from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m.

We are asking that you condemn the Conservative/Liberal alliance in Parliament and make it clear that this is being done against the will of the majority of Canadians. That is why we have chosen to call it “Not In Our Name”.

Bring banners and placards stating your opposition to the war. Those who wish may join in distributing a Peace Alliance Winnipeg leaflet on the issue.

Saturday, March 15th from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. assemble at the corner of Main and Water for a demonstration against the war in Afghanistan as part of a Canada wide day of action.

The aim of both actions is to focus on the true nature of this war and what it has meant to the people of Afghanistan.
